Noting the need for alterations to the Constitution
Be it resolved that the following changes be made to the Constitution:
(original in black, changes in red)
Article 2, Section 1
Original:
Section 1: The Parliament shall be the elected legislature of Kirkland and shall serve at the Sovereign's pleasure.
Proposed:
Section 1: The Parliament shall be the elected legislature of Kirkland and may be formed or dissolved by the Sovereign at any time.
Article 2, Section 4
Original:
Section 4: Elections for the Parliament shall take place every six (6) months on August 4th and February 4th.
Proposed:
Section 4: Elections for the Parliament shall take place when called for by the Sovereign at any point following the dissolution of a Parliament by the Sovereign.
Article 2, Section 5
Original:
Section 5: The Parliament shall be limited to a maximum of 30 members.
Proposed:
Section 5: The Parliament shall be limited to a maximum of 10 members.
Article 2, Section 6
Original:
Section 6: The Parliament shall elect from among its members a Speaker of the Parliament who shall preside over the proceedings and debates in the Parliament.
Proposed:
Section 6: The Parliament shall elect from among its members a Speaker of the Parliament who shall preside over the proceedings and debates in the Parliament. The Speaker will be elected by a simple majority of the Members of Parliament and then approved of the Sovereign.
Article 2, Section 7
Proposed:
Section 7: No ex post facto law may be passed
Article 2, Section 8
Proposed:
The Sovereign may dismiss any Member of Parliament at any time.
Article 2, Section 9
Proposed:
The Sovereign may appoint any member of the Nobility to Parliament to fill a vacancy in the Parliament.
Article 3, Section 8
Proposed:
Section 8: The Nobility shall not be subject to the judgment of the Kirkish Courts. Special hearings will be scheduled in which the Sovereign will mediate any allegations against or between any member of the Nobility

Mr. Speaker,
This is an attempt by the King to wrest more power away from the Parliament. I must urge my colleagues to oppose this attack on the legislative branch of government. The Parliament is fine the way it is and need no be altered. These amendments seem to imply that the Sovereign will act like a parent and the Parliament their child. Well I for one do not accept the idea that we in Parliament should be bullied by the Royal Authority. I yield the floor.

While I do not agree with all the changes proposed, I do believe that most of them are necessary. I yield the floor.

All the votes being in and there being the required three-fourths majority the motion carries. The Constitutional Amendments are adopted.
Final Vote: 5 yes, 1 no, 0 abstain.
