Be it resolved by The Emperor's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Temporal in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

  1. Members of Parliament, the Privy Council, and the Under-Secretaries of the Privy Council shall be entitled to a monthly salary for the duration of their time holding public office.
  2. Members of Parliament, Privy Councillors, and Under-Secretaries shall be paid bi-monthly (twice a month) on the second and fourth Friday of the month.
  3. The salary for Members of Parliament upon the enactment of this Act shall be ₤7,500 a month.

  5. The salary for Privy Councillors upon enactment of this Act shall be ₤10,000 a month.
  6. In the event that an individual holds multiple offices, they shall receive pay only for the most highly paid position they hold.
  7. After passing this Act, Members of Parliament may raise the pay of their offices but the new pay shall not take effect until the beginning of the next term of Parliament.

Mr. Speaker,

I know that what I shall say is redundant with the wishes of this bill but I must applaud Section 6 and 7 of this bill. Section 6 will prevent individuals from seeking higher office simple to be paid more since they will then lose their pay for the lower office and Section 7 will help ensure that Members of Parliament do not constantly raise their own salary without taking into account the possibility that they may lose reelection.

Mr. Speaker,

I must oppose this bill. I do not think that Members of Parliament or Privy Councillors or Under-Secretaries should receive any pay at all. By keeping these positions pay free we ensure that they do not become overly desirable simply to get a paycheck. It is my firm opinion that these positions should remain in their current form as unpaid, voluntary positions that a Noble seeks only in order to serve their nation rather than to get a paycheck.

Lord Henderson,

There must be pay other way the economy will fall. Should Kirkland become officially recognised sometime as an official nation then we need an economy.

Signed,

Lord Arlington
